We generally choose to talk to a specialist when we are already on the edge, with no strength left, and no direction to follow. And what we actually look for then is a saving swim belt simply to hang on to and take us where that might be … as long as we are over with it … and, if possible, let nobody know we went to a specialist. What would people say? That we are weak, that we cannot handle it or even worse, we may be sick …

We all need personal development, on one condition, to want that! In the United States personal development is a subject listed in the kindergarten curricula and is continued for a lifetime regardless of the area of life you are in. It is a mere status quo.

I am glad to see that, in Romania, people are more and more keen on personal development and that, step by step, the mentality so far, i.e. “I am self-sufficient, I am ok” turns into “Let’s see what else I could do for me and how I can improve what I already do”. It is very easy to draw the curtain and push everything underneath the mat. Sooner or later though, when there is no more room under the mat, we get stuck.

If “I am ok” were related to self-confidence rather than to pride, we would definitely be happy to envy. Question is: Are we?

Consequently, a personal development specialist – counsellor or coach – could help me when:

  • I need more self-confidence when in contact with my workmate, with the client whose Key Account I am, with my beloved, my child or simply with myself in all walks of life,
  • I could use more patience when connecting with others to thus avoid tensions, conflicts or the unpleasant high tone of voice,
  • I postpone (procrastinate) what I am supposed to do and that happens quite frequently; it does not necessarily affect my results as much as it creates a stress triggered by the inner urge « I must dot his»,
  • I need to find my own resources to overcome a difficult moment, a personal or professional failure,
  • I want to make a decision and I already have two options both with pros and cons,

and the list could go on.

What is crystal is that each of us gives a lot of thinking to the problem, we turn the topic upside down and still find ourselves waiting for a solution that is being late. The specialist helps us ad in such puzzle the missing parts so as to have the complete vision, to understand and decide ourselves what is to be done.

To sum up with, are you aware of what your goal is? Do you want to develop personally or professionally?

Then simply allow yourself to do it!
